Check out my Willy! Miner Willy that is, in this expanded remake of Matthew Smith's classic ZX  Spectrum game. Play all twenty original caverns  from the Spectrum version  or select to play the twenty brand new ones - or mix it up a bit and let the game decide what screens you're going to play! You can even play with subdued lighting, darkening the caverns and using the light from Willy's hard hat.

Here's the story from the original cassette inlay:

Miner Willy, while prospecting down Surbiton way, stumbles upon an ancient, long forgotten mine-shaft. On further exploration, he finds evidence of a lost civilisation far superior to our own, which used automatons to dig deep into the Earth's core to supply the essential raw materials for their advanced industry. After centuries of peace and prosperity, the civilisation was torn apart by war, and lapsed into a long dark age, abandoning their industry and machines. Nobody, however, thought to tell the mine robots to stop working, and through countless eons they had steadily accumulated a huge stockpile of valuable metals and minerals, and Miner Willy realises that he now has the opportunity to make his fortune by finding the underground store.

In order to move to the next chamber, you must collect all the flashing keys in the room while avoiding nasties like POISONOUS PANSIES and SPIDERS and SLIME and worst of all, MANIC MINING ROBOTS. When you have all the keys, you can enter the portal which will now be flashing. The game ends when you have been 'got' or fallen heavily three times.

Love seeing this and I will download when I get my Windows partition for my Mac.  What did you program this in?

I tried the game without donation - and had an instant flashback to my teens :D

The original game cost   £5.95 which is  £20 in todays  money.

So enjoy   a special cuppa  for the  £20 I just donated :) Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

An excellent game on which, in two days, I have already been spending too much time... :-) Happily donated.

Nice remake, i like it :) Is there any option to disable fullscreen? The resolution looks weird on my CRT :P

MARIO?

Pretty nice game. What language do you code? I code in GFA Basic 32 for Windows and code all routines from scratch. Just reached 150 games on itch. LARRYBTOYS

Very good remake of Manic Miner. However, these types of games are very frustrating to play. I recommend to add a continue option, where you can continue from the last reached level with the score reset.

The cheat from the original Manic Miner game has been put into this version. If you can't find what it is   online,  open the manual which is in the zip file and go to the last page. There is some invisible text on there, so highlight from the visible text right to the bottom of the page, copy it and paste it into Notepad.

Brilliant as always.

very good

Brilliant version, this is my tribute, thank you.

This is absolutely fantastic!  I've only properly played the extra levels so far, which are fiendishly designed, and loving every moment of it.

It's brilliant that each mode (original/extra/mixed) has it's own music - and especially that the extra levels have the "Technician Ted" music!

This is my favourite kind of remake - it has the original game but then builds on it with new content and features.  If you enjoy 8-bit platformers then I can't recommend this highly enough.

Thanks for the kind comments - and anyone with a Charlie Brown icon is one of life's good'uns in my book!
